Cleaner

Job Purpose

To maintain high standards of cleanliness and presentation throughout the shopping centre, ensuring a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for customers, tenants, visitors, and staff. The role will involve both front-of-house and back-of-house cleaning duties across public areas, staff facilities, service corridors, and operational areas.

Key Responsibilities

Front-of-House Cleaning

• Clean and maintain shopping mall walkways, entrances, exits, and public areas.
• Sweep, mop, vacuum, and machine-clean floors as required.
• Clean glass, doors, handrails, lifts, escalators, and high-touch surfaces.
• Empty bins and dispose of waste in accordance with site procedures.
• Maintain cleanliness of customer seating areas and communal spaces.
• Respond promptly to spillages and other cleaning requirements.
• Ensure public washrooms are cleaned, stocked, and maintained to a high standard.
• Present a professional and helpful image when interacting with customers and visitors.

Back-of-House Cleaning

• Clean service corridors, loading bays, staff welfare areas, offices, and storage areas.
• Remove waste and recycling materials from designated locations.
• Maintain cleanliness of staff kitchens, canteens, and welfare facilities.
• Carry out periodic deep-cleaning tasks as required.
• Support with cleaning during store refits, events, or maintenance activities.
• Ensure cleaning equipment and supplies are stored safely and correctly.

Health & Safety

• Follow all Health & Safety procedures and safe systems of work.
• Correctly use cleaning chemicals and equipment in accordance with COSHH guidelines.
• Wear appropriate PPE when required.
• Report hazards, defects, accidents, and maintenance issues promptly.
• Ensure wet floor signage and safety barriers are used appropriately.

Skills & Experience

• Previous cleaning experience within a shopping centre, retail, commercial, leisure, or similar environment preferred.
• Knowledge of cleaning methods, equipment, and chemicals.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Good attention to detail and high standards of cleanliness.
• Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
• Good communication and customer service skills.

• May involve early mornings, evenings, weekends, and bank holiday shifts.

Key Duties Include

Front-of-house cleaning, back-of-house cleaning, washroom maintenance, waste management, floor care, customer area cleaning, service corridor cleaning, and general housekeeping duties throughout the shopping centre.
