Assistant Market Officer – Facilities

£13.05 per hour, paid weekly

Covering Dewsbury and Huddersfield markets

Full time hours, working 5 out of 7 days

We are currently recruiting for an Assistant Market Officer to work on behalf of the local authority across Dewsbury and Huddersfield. This is a varied role working across the Kirklees District, duties can vary from helping the public to setting up of market stalls ans general maintenance.

This is a temporary role until September 2026 with potential to extend depending on business needs.

What you’ll be doing –

• Buildings and facilities are maintained and managed to agreed standards.
• Traders and users of the markets receive high standards of customer care.
• The markets remain vibrant and a successful part of the Council’s services to the community.
• Effective and efficient communication is ensured.
• Ensuring the Markets are clean and tidy.
• Markets stalls are prepared for the arrival of traders.
• Repairs are carried out promptly and to a high standard.

What we’re looking for –

• Previous experience within cleaning, security and health and safety is ideal
• Ability to do heavy duty cleaning and deal with biological hazards
• Ability to do heavy manual handling to erect market stalls; must be physically fit
• Comfortable with working outside in all weathers
• Driving licence and vehicle is required as you’ll be travelling to various market sites

Hours of work –

• Monday to Sunday, working 5 out of 7 days. Rotational weekends are required
• Hours vary between 6am-7pm, shifts between these times

Pay rate –

• £13.05 per hour, paid weekly
