Management Accountant

Up to £42,000 per annum | Permanent | Fully office-based | Leeds

We’re looking for a Management Accountant to join the Finance team at Toryen Investments Limited at its Leeds Head Office.

This is a hands-on role covering several businesses within a growing group, with responsibility for management accounts, month-end, financial reporting and analysis. You’ll also manage and mentor an Accounts Assistant and Finance Apprentice, giving you the opportunity to develop your leadership experience alongside your technical accounting skills.

The group is continuing to grow through organic expansion and acquisitions, so the scope of the role will develop as the business grows.

The role

Reporting to the Financial Controller, you’ll take responsibility for a range of management accounting and commercial finance activities across the group.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Preparing monthly management accounts across multiple group companies.
• Completing month-end journals, including accruals, prepayments and depreciation.
• Preparing balance sheet and bank reconciliations.
• Analysing financial results against budgets, forecasts and previous periods.
• Investigating variances and providing clear explanations.
• Managing and reconciling intercompany transactions and balances.
• Supporting monthly consolidated group accounts.
• Preparing financial reporting packs for the Board.
• Providing financial analysis and insight to support business decisions.
• Supporting budgeting, forecasting and financial planning.
• Maintaining accurate financial records across multiple entities.
• Supporting year-end processes and external audit requirements.
• Identifying opportunities to improve financial processes and controls.
• Managing the day-to-day workload of an Accounts Assistant and Finance Apprentice.
• Mentoring junior team members and supporting their professional development.

You’ll work across businesses including Mach Recruitment, JDR, Turbo Driving, Core Academy and associate company ISQ Recruitment, giving you exposure to different commercial operations and accounting requirements.

What we’re looking for

We’re looking for someone who is part CIMA qualified, ideally with no more than 12 months remaining until qualification.

We would also consider someone studying towards ACCA with a similar timeframe to qualification, particularly if you’re looking for a role offering greater variety and responsibility.

You should have:

• Previous experience as a Management Accountant, Assistant Management Accountant or similar.
• Experience preparing monthly management accounts.
• Strong knowledge of month-end accounting and journals.
• Experience with balance sheet reconciliations and intercompany transactions.
• A strong understanding of double-entry bookkeeping and general ledger accounting.
• Experience with budgeting, forecasting and variance analysis.
• Strong Excel skills, including formulas and pivot tables.
• Experience using accounting software such as Sage, Microsoft Dynamics 365, Navision, Xero or similar.
• Good attention to detail and financial accuracy.
• The ability to manage multiple priorities and meet monthly deadlines.

Experience working across multiple companies or entities would be an advantage.

Career development

This role is designed for someone who wants to develop beyond a traditional Management Accountant position.

You’ll work closely with the Financial Controller, gaining exposure to multiple businesses, commercial finance, group accounting and acquisitions. You’ll also have responsibility for supporting junior members of the Finance team with their own professional development.

Once you’re fully qualified, there will be an opportunity to review your role and salary as part of your progression. As the group continues to grow, there is also scope to move into wider finance responsibilities.
