JDR Recruitment is partnering with a leading provider of specialist power generation and energy solutions to recruit an experienced Mechanical Design / Process Design Engineer.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a forward-thinking engineering business delivering innovative Combined Heat & Power (CHP), Tri-Generation, and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects across the UK and internationally.

The Opportunity

As a Mechanical Design / Process Design Engineer, you will take ownership of the mechanical design process for a range of complex energy projects, supporting them from initial concept through to commissioning and operational handover.

Working alongside experienced project managers, design engineers, suppliers, and clients, you’ll develop detailed engineering solutions that improve energy efficiency, reduce emissions, and support the transition towards a more sustainable future.

This is a varied and technically challenging role where you’ll be involved in every stage of project delivery while helping to develop innovative energy systems capable of delivering exceptional performance and reliability.


Key Responsibilities

Mechanical Design & Engineering

  • Lead the mechanical design of CHP, Tri-Generation, and Battery Energy Storage (BESS) projects

  • Produce detailed engineering specifications and technical documentation

  • Develop Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), and mechanical layouts

  • Design mechanical systems including pipework, ventilation, and associated plant equipment

  • Coordinate mechanical design activities from concept through to commissioning

Technical Project Delivery

  • Support the successful delivery of energy projects throughout their lifecycle

  • Work closely with the Design Manager and wider engineering teams

  • Ensure designs meet project specifications, quality standards, and client requirements

  • Assist with project budgeting and cost-effective engineering solutions

  • Monitor design progress and ensure project deadlines are achieved

Engineering Calculations & Safety

  • Perform pipe sizing, pump sizing, and mechanical system calculations

  • Carry out engineering safety assessments and risk reviews

  • Ensure designs comply with CDM regulations and current Health & Safety legislation

  • Apply engineering best practice throughout all project stages

Supplier & Client Management

  • Liaise with suppliers, subcontractors, project managers, and clients

  • Manage supplier performance and technical approvals

  • Review supplier documentation and ensure compliance with project quality plans

  • Attend technical meetings where required

Site Support

  • Carry out site surveys and layout assessments

  • Provide technical support during installation and commissioning

  • Assist with troubleshooting and resolving technical issues on live projects

  • Support commissioning teams to ensure successful project completion


What We’re Looking For

Qualifications

βœ” HNC/HND or Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent)

Essential Experience

βœ” Minimum of 5 years’ experience in technical management and the development of energy projects

βœ” Strong background in:

  • Mechanical design

  • Power generation

  • Pipework design

  • Ventilation system design

  • Process engineering

βœ” Experience working on complex engineering projects from concept through to commissioning

βœ” Good understanding of:

  • Combined Heat & Power (CHP)

  • Energy generation systems

  • CDM Regulations

  • Health & Safety legislation

βœ” Experience producing:

  • Engineering specifications

  • Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs)

  • Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs)

  • Technical design documentation

βœ” Experience carrying out engineering calculations including pipe and pump sizing

βœ” Competent using:

  • AutoCAD 3D (or equivalent CAD software)

  • Microsoft Office packages

βœ” Full UK driving licence

Working Hours

Monday – Thursday: 8:30am – 5:00pm

Friday: 8:30am – 4:00pm
