Job Title: School Cleaner

Working Hours:

6:30am – 8:30am Monday – Friday

Salary:

£12.71 per hour

Job Purpose:

To ensure the school premises are clean, safe, and hygienic, supporting a healthy environment for pupils, staff, and visitors.

Key Responsibilities:

• Clean classrooms, corridors, offices, and communal areas
• Vacuum carpets and mop floors
• Clean and disinfect toilets and washrooms
• Empty bins and remove waste safely
• Wipe desks, chairs, and high-touch surfaces
• Clean dining areas, halls, and staff rooms
• Replenish supplies such as soap, paper towels, and toilet rolls
• Lock/unlock areas as required (depending on shift)
• Report any damage, hazards, or maintenance issues

Person Specification:

Essential:

• Reliable, punctual, and trustworthy
• Ability to work independently
• Good attention to detail
• Understanding of basic cleaning procedures and hygiene standards
• Physically capable of carrying out cleaning duties

Desirable:

• Previous cleaning experience (preferably in a school or similar setting)
• Knowledge of COSHH regulations
• Flexible approach to working hours

Skills & Competencies:

• Strong organisational skills
• Ability to follow instructions
• Awareness of health and safety practices
• Respectful and professional around children and staff

Safeguarding Requirements:

• Must comply with the school’s safeguarding policies
• Basic DBS check required
• Commitment to safeguarding and protecting children

Health & Safety:

• Follow all health and safety regulations
• Use cleaning chemicals safely and correctly
• Wear PPE where required

Additional Information:

• Training provided where necessary
• Uniform may be provided
• Role may require working during school holidays for deep cleaning
