JDR Recruitment are looking for Timber Yard operatives for our client in Salford.

Job Purpose:

To support the efficient day-to-day operations of the timber yard by handling, processing, storing, and distributing timber products safely and effectively, ensuring high standards of customer service and stock management.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Loading and unloading timber and building materials from delivery vehicles
  • Picking and preparing customer orders accurately
  • Operating yard machinery (e.g. forklift trucks, saw equipment – if trained and authorised)
  • Cutting timber to size according to customer requirements
  • Maintaining stock levels and assisting with stock checks
  • Keeping the yard clean, organised, and safe at all times
  • Assisting customers with product selection and loading vehicles
  • Following all health & safety procedures and site regulations
  • Reporting damaged stock, equipment faults, or hazards
  • Labelling, storing, and rotating stock correctly

Skills and Experience Required:

Essential:

  • Good level of physical fitness (manual handling involved)
  • Basic numeracy and literacy skills
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Strong awareness of health & safety practices
  • Reliable and punctual

Desirable:

  • Previous experience in a timber yard, builders’ merchant, or warehouse
  • Forklift Truck (FLT) licence (counterbalance or side loader preferred)
  • Knowledge of timber types and building materials
  • Customer service experience

Working Conditions:

  • Outdoor-based role in a timber yard environment
  • Regular manual handling and lifting required
  • May involve early starts, weekends, or overtime depending on business needs

Shifts:

Monday – Friday Rotating 6am-2pm & 2pm-10pm – candidates must be able to work both shifts

Pay:

£14.62 per hour

These role are temporary to permanent for the right candidates
