Transport Operations Officer

£16.35 per hour – paid weekly

Barnsley, office based

7:30am-4:30pm, full time hours

We are currently recruiting for a Transport Operations Officer to join the local authority in Barnsley. This is a temporary contract expected to run until June 2026 with potential to extend depending on business needs after this time.

The purpose of the role is to control the authority’s fleet in respect of vehicle allocation, scheduling, testing, monitoring and disposal and to manage the booking system and to ensure systems are in place to support the Fleet Operation.

What you’ll be doing –

• Managing customers’ short term hire requirements, bookings, allocating the appropriate vehicles and hire records.
• Managing the vehicle and plant service schedule including ensuring vehicles and plant are made available.
• Manage approved supplier list for spot hire/contract hire of vehicles
• Liaise, negotiate and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders
• Undertake routine checks of driving licenses (MOTs and insurance where applicable).
• Place orders and pass invoices for payment.

What we’re looking for –

• Previous experience in a similar role within transport
• Experience of working to and meeting deadlines
• Strong communication skills for both internal and external stakeholder management
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Excellent organisational skills to manage own workload

Due to the nature of the role, successful candidates must be able to pass a DBS check.
