Hours: Monday-Thursday, 9:00am-5:30pm | Friday, 8:30am-5:00pm

Benefits: 23 days’ annual leave plus bank holidays, company pension and free on-site parking.

The Role

We are recruiting an experienced HGV Fleet Transport Compliance Lead to join an established UK-wide manufacturing and distribution business at one of its regional distribution sites.

Reporting to the Operations Manager and working closely with an external Transport Compliance Officer, you will take responsibility for the day-to-day compliance and operational management of the HGV fleet and its drivers.

This is a hands-on compliance role. We are looking for someone with practical experience of HGV transport compliance, tachograph analysis, drivers’ hours regulations and vehicle maintenance compliance. General transport administration or planning experience alone will not be sufficient.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor and maintain compliance across the HGV fleet, ensuring vehicles and drivers meet relevant legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage digital tachograph compliance, including downloading and analysing driver card and vehicle unit data using TACO or equivalent tachograph analysis software.
  • Monitor drivers’ hours and working time, identify tachograph infringements, and ensure appropriate follow-up and corrective action.
  • Maintain accurate driver compliance records, including driving licence checks, qualifications and relevant documentation.
  • Ensure vehicle MOTs, statutory inspections, servicing and planned maintenance are scheduled and completed on time.
  • Liaise with garages and maintenance providers to arrange repairs and inspections, ensuring vehicle defects are recorded and resolved appropriately.
  • Maintain vehicle compliance records, including maintenance, MOT, insurance and inspection documentation.
  • Work with the external Transport Compliance Officer to support audits, resolve compliance issues and maintain required standards.
  • Coordinate daily driver workloads, manage absences and arrange cover where necessary.
  • Liaise with drivers regarding deliveries, vehicle issues and operational queries.
  • Process delivery paperwork, update systems, maintain records and support invoicing.
  • Communicate with the Operations Manager, Logistics, Warehouse and Customer Services to resolve operational issues.

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Previous hands-on experience in HGV transport or fleet compliance.
  • Practical experience using digital tachograph analysis software, such as TACO or equivalent, including downloads, infringement monitoring and follow-up.
  • Good knowledge of drivers’ hours regulations and working time requirements.
  • Strong understanding of HGV vehicle compliance, including roadworthiness, MOTs, inspections, servicing and defect management.
  • Experience managing driver compliance records and driving licence checks.
  • Excellent organisational, administration and data-entry skills, with strong attention to detail.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills and the ability to manage competing priorities in a busy transport environment.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Transport Manager CPC – Road Haulage.
  • Experience supporting transport compliance audits or working with an external Transport Compliance Officer.

Candidates with strong practical HGV fleet compliance experience will be considered even if they do not hold a Transport Manager CPC.

What We Offer

  • 23 days’ annual leave plus bank holidays.
  • Company pension scheme.
  • Free on-site parking.

Important Requirements

  • Full, unrestricted right to work in the UK is essential.
We are an equal opportunities employer and welcome applications from individuals of all backgrounds. We are committed to creating an inclusive environment where everyone feels valued and respected.
