Pay Rate: Approx. £13.77 per hour
Hours: 37 hours per week
Working Pattern: Monday to Friday, 9.00am-5.00pm – Flexi working available
Contract: Temporary Agency Assignment

JDR Recruitment is recruiting 2 Highway Inspectors to support the Department for Infrastructure’s Mid & East Antrim Maintenance Team based in Ballymena.

This is a practical technical role involving inspection of roads, footways and associated infrastructure, responding to public complaints and supporting the Department’s highway maintenance and permit inspection activities.

The Role

Key duties will include:

• Carrying out cyclic public liability inspections of carriageways, footways and associated highway infrastructure.

• Identifying and recording defects and maintenance issues.

• Dealing with enquiries and complaints from members of the public.

• Undertaking permit inspections.

• Maintaining accurate inspection records.

• Liaising with colleagues and other relevant parties regarding identified defects or issues.

• Supporting the Department in relation to public liability matters.

• Attending court on behalf of the Department where required.

Essential Qualifications

Applicants should hold a BTEC qualification in Civil Engineering or equivalent.

Where an applicant does not hold a BTEC Civil Engineering qualification, the following minimum qualifications may be considered:

• 5 GCSEs, including:

  • Mathematics at Grade B or above

  • English Language at Grade C or above

  • A Civil Engineering-related Science subject at Grade C or above

  • Two additional GCSEs at Grade C or above

Applicants must also:

• Hold a current driving licence.

• Have access to a car to meet the requirements of the role.

Experience

The request does not specify a minimum essential experience requirement. Relevant experience in highways, roads, civil engineering, inspections, construction or infrastructure maintenance would nevertheless be beneficial.

Additional Information

The successful candidates will be required to complete the relevant pre-employment checks and obtain Basic security clearance.
