Staff Officer Accountant – Consolidation Team

Location: Castle Buildings, Belfast
Pay Rate: £21.45 per hour
Hours: 37 hours per week
Working Pattern: Monday to Friday, 9.00am-5.00pm
Contract: Temporary Agency Assignment
Start Date: 6 October 2026
Expected End Date: 17 January 2028

JDR Recruitment is recruiting a qualified Accountant to join a Northern Ireland Civil Service finance team based at Castle Buildings, Belfast.

Working at Staff Officer level, the successful candidate will join the Consolidation Team and support the preparation of government accounts, financial reporting and liaison with Arm’s Length Bodies and other government organisations.

This is an excellent opportunity for a professionally qualified accountant with strong technical accounting, Excel and financial systems experience.

The Role

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting with the preparation of 6-month, interim and year-end consolidated accounts.

  • Assisting with the compilation of Whole of Government Accounts.

  • Providing financial advice and guidance to Arm’s Length Bodies (ALBs).

  • Liaising with ALBs to obtain account packs and financial information for consolidation.

  • Working with other government departments and public bodies to reconcile inter-government transactions and balances.

  • Supporting accounting for SEUPB Peace IV and Peace Plus expenditure and accruals.

  • Preparing and uploading month-end journals.

  • Responding to queries from the Northern Ireland Audit Office.

  • Undertaking other appropriate accounting and finance duties as required.

Essential Qualifications

Applicants must be a qualified accountant who has successfully completed the professional examinations and practical experience requirements for full membership of one of the following bodies:

  • Chartered Accountants Ireland

  • Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland

  • Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales

  • Chartered Institute of Management Accountants

  • Association of Chartered Certified Accountants

  • Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy

  • Institute of Certified Public Accountants in Ireland

Relevant or equivalent professional qualifications will also be considered.

Essential Experience

Applicants must have:

  • At least one year’s post-qualification experience gained within the last five years in a finance or accounts preparation environment.

  • Excellent Microsoft Excel skills.

  • Strong technical accounting knowledge.

  • Experience using Oracle.

  • Experience working with financial systems.

Additional Information

The successful candidate will be required to complete the relevant pre-employment checks and obtain Basic security clearance.
