Agricultural Inspector – Warrenpoint Port

Location: Warrenpoint Port, Newry
Pay Rate: Approx. £15.83 per hour plus 12.5% Shift Disturbance Allowance
Hours: 37 hours per week
Contract: Temporary Agency Assignment
Start Date: 5 October 2026
Expected End Date: 31 December 2026
Working Pattern: Rotating shift pattern across 7 days

JDR Recruitment is recruiting an Agricultural Inspector to support DAERA operations at Warrenpoint Port.

The successful candidate will support the delivery of Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) official controls, helping to protect human, animal and environmental health in Northern Ireland.

This is a varied operational role involving both documentary and practical inspections across a range of goods and materials entering through the port.

The Role

Duties will include:

  • Undertaking a range of official controls and inspections at Warrenpoint Port.

  • Carrying out documentary and practical checks.

  • Inspecting consignments including food products, straw, machinery and other relevant goods.

  • Supporting the delivery of Sanitary and Phytosanitary controls.

  • Checking documentation and ensuring relevant requirements have been met.

  • Working within established DAERA procedures and regulatory requirements.

  • Recording inspection findings accurately.

  • Undertaking other duties appropriate to the Agricultural Inspector Group 1 grade.

Essential Qualifications

Applicants must have:

  • At least 2 GCSEs/GCE O Levels at Grade C or above in English and Mathematics, or recognised equivalents such as Essential Skills Level 2.

AND

One of the following, or a recognised equivalent/higher qualification:

  • Level 3 Diploma in Work-based Agriculture

  • Level 3 Extended Diploma in Agriculture

  • Level 3 Advanced Technical Extended Diploma in Agriculture

  • NVQ Level 3 in Livestock, Crop Production or Poultry

  • National Diploma in Agriculture

  • College Diploma in Agriculture

  • Advanced Diploma in Agriculture

  • Another relevant Level 3 agricultural qualification

AND

  • At least 3 months’ relevant post-qualification work experience in the agriculture industry gained within the last 2 years.

AND

  • A full current driving licence enabling you to drive manual vehicles in Northern Ireland.

  • Access to suitable transport to meet the requirements of the role.

Documentary evidence of qualifications will be required.

Working Pattern

This is a full-time role operating on a rotating shift pattern across 7 days, including weekends.

Typical shift times are:

  • Early: 5.00am – 1.00pm

  • Late: 1.00pm – 9.00pm

Flexitime is not available.

The shift pattern may change according to operational requirements.

A 12.5% Shift Disturbance Allowance applies.

Additional Information

The successful candidate will be required to complete the relevant pre-employment checks and obtain Basic security clearance.
